The Restaurant „Modrý Dom“ (The Blue House)

img

Do you think that the colour blue is nice? You can find the most beautiful one together with the best of dishes at the restaurant Modrý dom in Vajnory, Bratislava. It will not make you feel blue, but you may be red with anger that you cannot find such a harmonious and congenial Slovak cuisine restaurant in the centre of Bratislava, apart from the odd exception perhaps.

I have found out why it is the case. It is not surprising because Modrý dom is owned by the wellknown Bratislavan restaurateur, a great man called Rudo Mikuš. He is inspired by the harmony of tastes of his mother’s cuisine. He cooked with her at home. He adopted her excellent recipes and modernised them and that is why today, his clients come from all over the world. To tell the truth, foreign clients praise the Slovak cuisine which would probably be appreciated by every gourmet. For example, they love the Slovak cabbage soup or a pork tenderloin with blue cheese; the Germans are mad about crunchy goose meat with potato pancakes called „lokše“ and about poppy noodles; the Austrians love all our specialities; and I think and the Japanese like the taste of pork, chicken and dumplings. Everyone should visit Modrý dom, not just for the dumplings.

It is situated in romantic surroundings in the middle of the picturesque wine village Vajnory and decorated with Slovak folklore artifacts. If you taste the excellent garlic soup with your partner, your evening kisses will be piquant and warm. And if you order duck or goose meat with „lokše“, you will feel like you are newly married. You will not spend much money because the prices are reasonable. You may save something towards a ring. However, as the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, perhaps you should let your future wife pamper your stomach with her culinary arts. If this is not the case, you will be warmly welcomed and indulged by Rudy and his companions. This house from 1890 has a rich and varied history, so it will remember your welcome visit too.
