If you were to buy an older cottage or resale property in Slovakia, it might be in a need of minor or major refurbishment.

To add value to your property, follow these three basic rules:

  • choose a well recommended local architect
  • go for the highest quality materials
  • hire a good project supervisor

Local architects are experienced in an area’s specific planning requirements and procedures, will know the characteristics of the area, the period and quality of construction and will come much cheaper than UK based professionals. Highest quality materials will give your property an edge over the rest of the market. A superior interior finish will ensure a higher valuation of your property and attract potential tenants or buyers.

Unfortunately, the majority of Slovak crafts and tradesmen do not speak English. It is therefore advisable to hire a part time project supervisor (your architect, preferably) to communicate with craftsmen and suppliers. A well planned and effectively managed refurbishment will help you to cash in on the current high capital growth in Slovakia.
