Slovak Creater - For the First Time at 100% Design in London

A touring exhibition ‘CREATER – Slovak Creative Impact’, which was organised by a design factory from Bratislava, introduced a selection of top products, in most cases furniture prototypes by Sylvia Jokelová, Martin Frajka, Tomáš Brichta, Cia Mrvíková, Pavol Masopust, Klára Zavadilová and Patrik Illa.

A Slovak pavilion won the attention of visitors as well as of the media. The selected products have been evaluated as high quality, with the potential to become successful in foreign markets. The pavilion’s attendants have been in particular fascinated by fresh design with reference to some traditional artisan techniques and handwork, which is – it could be said – a kind of specific feature of Slovak designer production.

Slovak producers are beginning to be aware of the fact (for the time being only step by step) that decisive factors in assessment of product quality are design as well as sophisticated detail. Therefore handmade designer prototypes prevail over serially made products.

The exhibition Creater is trying to make Slovak designers and their products successful at home and abroad and to stimulate the interest of world and of Slovak producers. Many high quality designs could in this way pass from the present phase of prototypes to the production in limited production runs or to large-scale production.

The exhibition has been installed in the premises of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in London. A lecture of the designer Klára Zavadilová, who works for a well known British company focussed on industrial design, was part of the festive opening of the exhibition.

The first touring presentation of Slovak creativity and design will, after leaving London, be introduced also in other European capitals of design – in Copenhagen, Rotterdam and Berlin.
